Nomadic Tendencies

Moving sucks. Since I left my folks’ house to begin my college education, the longest contiguous time I have spent in any one residence since has been only eleven months. Now I’m setting what I believe to be my record for shortest time of residence, at a slim two weeks (my last place’s lease ran out July 31 and my new one didn’t start until today, leaving me in a state of residential limbo). So I counted up how many times I’ve moved since the fall of 2000 and it came to sixteen. That’s one move every 4.5 months!

So it’s no wonder that I’m really looking forward to settling into my new place for more than a year. I’ll be able to do things like actually change my billing address. And I can invest time and money into various large appliances and things—like a decent surround sound system—that I previously would have avoided due to the hassle of transplanting them. I’m pretty excited about that.
