After discussing with Adam how useless post “categories” are for low-flow blogs such as mine and his, we both agreed that keyword tagging would be a far superior way of adding content metadata. Unfortunately, WordPress doesn’t support tagging yet, but I found a nice plugin that does. So I’ve ditched my categories (which I wasn’t using anyhow), and filled the void with tags. You can now click the tags on each post to find all the posts with that tag.

My one beef is that it lists the tags alphabetically rather than the order I entered them. Tags have inherent priority over each other in my opinion, and I’d like to be able to list them that way. Plus, I’ll probably have a lot of single-use tags just for fun, and I’d prefer them to appear last. But overall it’s a pretty slick system.

I also finally upgraded to WordPress 2 in the process, and though everything appears to have come across fine, let me know if you see any behaviors pop up. I’ll be going back through older posts and adding tags soon as well.

More on watt or not, meta, tags, and wordpress.

The tags are nice, but there is no way I am going through 2.5 years of blog posts to add in tags for everything on mine.
