watt or not

Long Story Short

Ah, blogging, how I’ve missed you. First post of the new year, and man have I got some catching up to do. Somehow I didn’t even get around to mentioning that I would be in Japan for two weeks, even though Japan is likely my favorite thing to talk about ever. And here I am, back already.

So, quick recap: the Wii is awesome and will definitely be the subject of many future posts, Christmas was good, New Year’s was decent, and then I went to Japan and visited Nat and Adam (and Jeff and Neil and others). It was great to see you guys! See you again in March or April or whenever! Trip blogging and photos are forthcoming.

In more recent events, one of the RAM slots in my Powerbook has ceased functioning (apparently a common problem in this model, unbeknownst to me). It’s way out of warranty and a repair would require replacing the too-expensive-to-bother-replacing logic board. So I’m running on half my usual memory until I can get around to the best solution: buying a 1GB chip and putting it in the remaining good slot. I’m not real pleased about that, especially since it had to happen when I’m still feeling the financial burn of a two week Japan trip (not that there is ever a particularly good time for an unexpected $100 expense).

I’m slowly picking up where I left off on eChef; in addition to the work on a new, less Web 1.0-ish site and store, we’re now making plans for version 1.2. For this version we plan to integrate with Cooking Mama for Wii, so that you can practice cooking your recipes in a digital environment before trying the real thing, or compete against your friends! OK, that’s obviously not true, but wouldn’t it be cool? Maybe I’m just a bit too Wii-obsessed right now.

Speaking of, John brought home Trauma Center while I was in Japan. This game is quite hard. Like, don’t expect to beat a level on the first try. Still, it’s lots of fun and very original. I’m always up for trying a departure from the traditional range of gaming genres, and Trauma Center does not disappoint. I would recommend renting or trying it at a friends’ before buying to make sure you can stomach the difficulty, though.
