Some Japan Photos

Friday, August 3 2007 at 5:21 pm

I’ve dipped a skeptical toe into the waters of Flickr to see if it will be a good replacement for my current photo gallery. Here are the photos I took at the Fushimi Inari shrine in Kyoto, which I blogged about here.

Fushimi Inari

Maybe I haven’t mentioned this before, but I’m kind of unhappy with my current Gallery installation and am looking for a new way to put my photos online. This is the main reason none of my Japan photos have made an appearance yet. My main requirements are:

  1. unlimited uploads
  2. uploading directly from iPhoto while maintaining title, description, and order
  3. able to easily embed into my own site

Gallery did the first two well enough, but the theming process always looked so complicated that I never wanted to try #3. Also, the interface sucks.

Flickr (with a pro account) can do #1 and #3, and I think I’ve found some software to handle #2. So it seems like a viable alternative.

I welcome any advice here.

I use Fraser Speir’s superb FlickrExport for iPhoto and Aperture (which I use frequently) for that purpose, and Flickr is very very useful and looks a zillion times nicer than picasa or any of the other horrid horrid sites.

You can get Fraser’s plugin at http://connectedflow.com.
